NOTE: These answers are not exhaustive and the Constitution and By-Laws posted on the Club’s website refer.
 
Q.        What are the types of mooring?
 
A.        There are Finger (New) and (Power) Docks, Mediterranean Mooring and Wet Mooring. The price for each are indicated in the Application Form you will receive upon submission of your Screening Application Form. (You will need a tender to access the wet mooring balls).

Q.        What are the restrictions on boat sizes?
 
A.        Essentially, vessels in excess of 33-ft LOA by 11-ft beam and vessels less than 19-ft LOA will not be considered for mooring/dockage without a special vote by a majority of Flag Officers.

Q.        Can I store my boat at the Club during the off season?
 
A.        If you are a member, yes, but space is very limited, including for current members.

Q.        What is a self-help Club?
 
A.        The Club does not hire individuals nor has employees to work and maintain the Club facilities. All members are expected to participate in all aspects of the Club operations in accordance with the Bylaws of the Club Constitutions. Members are required to attend lift-in and lift out, four work parties, stand two Officer-of-the-Day (OOD) watches and participate in at least one of the club activities listed in the Application Form.

Q.        What is the OOD program?
 
A.        The program aims at welcoming reciprocals, assist members in the safe operations of pleasure crafts, maintain the club facilities and complete a report at the end of the day.

Q.        What are my mandatory contributions to the Club?
 
A.        Most members are expected to attend Lift-In, Lift-Out, four (4) work parties, stand two (2) Officer-of-the-Day (OOD) watches and participate in one (1) of the club activities listed in the Application Form.

Q.         Are there consequences if I fail to meet my mandatory contributions?

 
A.         The consequences of missing mandatory events are fines as set out in the Constitution.  It could also include; not being awarded seniority points and possibly having your membership revoked.

Q.        What can I do if I know that I will miss a work party or other mandatory event?
 
A.        You may have another family member over the age of 18 fill in for you.  If they are replacing you for an OOD watch then they must also have a Boaters Licence, be over the age of 18 and know what is expected of them.  Your OOD duty dates can also be switched with other club members.  Regardless though, you should notify the Vice Commodore if there's a problem or that you'll be replaced by someone else.  Family emergencies will be looked at on a case-by-case basis by the Executive Committee and its Flag Officers.

Q.         Am I excused from attending mandatory events if I'm away on Temporary Duty (TD)?
 
A.         No.  Despite CFBKYC being a military club, you've signed on agreeing to fully participate in the operation of the club which requires your participation.  Work party, Lift-in/out dates are published years in advance to help you coordinate your commitments.  There are options if you are tasked to be away such as using a qualifying family member or switching dates with another club member.

Q.        How else can I help the Club?
 
A.        We need time and labours for extra work parties.

Q.        What is the points system?
 
A.        The membership ranking is designed to establish priority.  Points are accumulated and carried forward and are awarded at the end of each season when the member or executive member has met the participation requirements.

Q.        How can I change or improve my type of mooring?
 
A.        You have to request to the Membership Officer (MO) the type of mooring you would like, and the mooring sub-committee will determine availability considering the safe and efficient allocation of mooring/dockage, the goal being efficient use of mooring facilities on the basis of type and size of vessel, membership categories, member’s wishes, and points.

Q.        What is the electricity availability and capacity?
 
A.        One 110 Volts/15 Amp outlet per vessel.

Q.        What are the Club amenities?
 
A.        The Club house enjoys a new roof, newly renovated bathroom, shower and a kitchen, a VHF radio, mini weather station and a telephone line.  Sorry, there is no Internet access at CFBKYC.

Q.        Is a boom available to remove my mast?
 
A.        Yes, for use at your own risk during specific periods after lift-in and before lift-out, and in case of emergency. Available club members will be available to assist you in the operation.

Q.        When can I use the Club boat?
 
A.        The club boats are for use when standing watch and while running the Sail Training Program. They are not for personal use.

Q.        What is the alcohol policy at the Club?
 
A.        The Club policy on alcohol is in accordance with the CFB Kingston policy and Transport Canada.  Essentially, alcohol can only be consumed onboard vessels that have the facilities required to be authorized to do so.

Q.        Where can I park my car(s)?
 
A.        Members are authorised to park only one (1) car at the lower level. The upper level can accommodate guest vehicles.

Q.        What is a courtesy dock?
 
A.        The Club has one dock that can accommodate 2 vessels for members on wet mooring, reciprocals or visitors for a period not to exceed 2 hours.

Q.        Can I become a member if my boat is less than 19 ft?
 
A.        The Club will accommodate small pleasure craft to full time CF members of the base who want to be part of our club.  The small boats will be provided space for storage on trailers and the ramp will be used when required. There is an extra fee to be determined by the executive committee.  Kayaks, canoes and skiffs will be provided with storage in the dinghies area with no extra fee recommended other than the membership.

Q.        Can I become a member if I have a kayak, a skiff, or a canoe?
 
A.        The Club will accommodate full time CF members of the base who want to be part of our club.

Q.        What is a reciprocal program?
 
A.        Yachts clubs can be ‘reciprocal’ if they accept our reciprocal offer to exchange club’s privileges as per the agreement letters exchanged between participating yacht clubs.

Q.        Am I expected to serve on the executive committee?
 
A.        No one is required to serve on the executive committee but your participation is highly encouraged.

Q.        How can I determine what kind of slip we require and what the cost is, if I can not see what is available and determine which type of slip we require?

A.        You will be informed promptly by the Membership Officer, RC Yachts or the respective Fleet Captain as to what mooring is available for your vessel. Simply indicate your preferences when you complete your Application and we will inform you as soon as possible. For example, if you requested a Finger Dock (New) but assigned another type of mooring, you will be reimbursed for the overpayment, and vice versa, if applicable.

Q.        Upon submitting the Application Forms, do we give a deposit or post dated cheque? 

A.        In order to be considered for membership and to proceed, full payment must accompany your Application.  Either a cheque for the full amount dated as of today, or by using the Non Public Property (NPP) Payment Deduction Authorization (PDA) form included in your Application papers.

Q.        When will I know if I have a space? 

A.        You will be informed on or shortly after March 31 which mooring has been assigned to your vessel. After March 31, first come first serve based on availability.

Q.        What is the "pre-authorized" form attached with the Application for?

A.        If you are referring to the NPP PDA, this form is required if you choose to pay by Credit Card or by cheque (voided) and payment to be withdrawn on April 1st, or in three monthly instalments (April 1st, May 1st, and June 1st).
